California Cleanup
September is Coastal Cleanup Month in California and we urge all residents to participate. The CCC participated in California Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday, September 18, 2021. The CCC removed trash and plastic pollution at beaches and waterways throughout the state. In 2019, more than 74,000 volunteers picked up more than 900,000 pounds of trash from beaches and waterways throughout California.

The CCC isn’t just cleaning our California coasts, trails, and parks in September. We participate all year long by cleaning your neighborhoods, parks, and other local areas. We urge all Californians to join us in cleaning up California. Trash from inland areas flows downstream to the coast, so cleaning up neighborhood trash prevents marine debris. When plastics and other pollutants enter our oceans it can decimate marine life. The debris, particularly plastic, not only makes the state’s beaches look messy, but it also can kill wildlife, like birds and sea turtles, which become entangled, or eat it. Gather cleanup supplies from home, download the CleanSwell app (to count your trash, and to have your trash counted), and clean on your own time. Close to 17,000 Californians participated in a neighborhood cleanup during September, preventing over 150,000 pounds of trash from entering our stormwater systems and potentially polluting our coast and ocean. Thank you to all the participants and volunteers who continue to keep California clean. The CCC continues to advocate for clean coastlines and more information will be held on the CCC website on how you can participate in these cleanups.
